Become an Owner

Owners are an essential ingredient in creating Durham Central Market and building our cooperative. Those that join in the early stages play a critical role in helping Durham Central Market get off the ground. Owners share in the decisions and the profits stay in the community.

We are now able to offer two options for becoming an owner. Most people will choose to purchase an individual owner share. The cost of an individual owner share is $100, with the option to add names of additional shoppers to the share for $40 each. Each membership counts for one voting share. If two adults in a household would each like to have a vote, we encourage each to purchase an owner share. Owners also receive a discount on certain purchases.

The second option is open to business owners to purchase a business share. The cost of a business share is $250 - $100 for the share + $150 business fee which permits your employees - up to 25 - to shop with your owner number. A business share, through the designated contact, also receives one vote.

To join online, please fill out the online owner share form and purchase your share using a secure Paypal connection. Or if you prefer, you can print out the Individual owner form (pdf) or Business owner form (pdf), and send it, along with your payment, to the address listed on the form. You will soon receive your Ownership Packet in the mail. And Thanks!!!
