Welcome! Durham Central Market is a new neighborhood cooperative grocery working to open a store located near the downtown area (Read more about our location). Durham Central Market follows the owner/member model of local co-op groceries like Weaver Street Market in Carrboro and Chatham Marketplace in Pittsboro, but with a distinctively Durham flavor. If you're not an owner, now is a great time to become one! Building a full-service grocery store is a big project, and we need your help to get the doors open. We're looking for investors who want to keep their money local and help get a true community organization off the ground, while still getting a return on their investment. If you're already an owner and are interested in participating in this great opportunity, you can find out more or send us questions about becoming an investor.
Our goal for the store is to offer high quality, mostly local food and other products, to reinvest profits back into the community, to practice sustainability, and to foster a respectful, professional workplace. We invite you to learn more about the ideas and the planning that has gone into the development of the Durham Central Market cooperative. As a grocery store dedicated to serving Durham and built by Durham, Durham Central Market got to this point through the great work of volunteers from local Durham neighborhoods. We continue to need volunteer help and hope that you will consider volunteering your time and talents. You can contact us by email at email@example.com or send us mail at P.O. Box 25216, Durham, NC 27702-5216.
It's official -- as our Founding Owner drive came to a close on October 31, we've reached our goal. Durham Central Market officially has over 300 (301 to be exact) Founding Owners. Many, many thanks (and congratulations!) to everyone out there who believed in this venture enough. Durham Central Market is off to an excellent start, and you're a big reason why!
Two weeks ago yesterday Durham Central Market held its Founding Owners' Celebration at the Trotter Building on Geer Street in the Central Park area. The venue was great and I was so energized to be able to put faces to the growing number of names on DCM's ownership rolls.
We are very very close to making our goal of 300 founding owners by October 31, 2008!!
If you've not sent in your share purchase please consider doing so today. If you've not told your friends about this opportunity to build community, please do so right now and tell them that they can put their share purchase in the mail today and it will still get them the sweatshop free and very nifty founding owner t-shirt!

What a great way to spend the last weekend of summer!!
Great article about local farmers and chefs. More support for what we're all doing imo.
This website is about Durham's newest cooperative grocery mart, Durham Central Market. We aim to locate the market in the Central Park District of Durham but we need your help now! We are currently finalizing our business plan, we have not selected a location yet, however our founding owner drive is moving along steadily. Our goal is to sell 300 founding owner shares by the end of October. To date we have sold roughly 90-100 founding owner shares. If you haven't purchased your share, please consider doing so today.
Yesterday, for the second consecutive Saturday morning, DCM volunteers staffed a booth next to the Durham Farmers Market. Farmers Market shoppers are able to stop by our booth to pick up a brochure, sign up for email updates or just to chat with our volunteers. The response from Durhamites has been overwhelmingly positive in favor of our market opening. If we are permitted, we will continue our booth at the Farmers Market in Durham in the coming weeks as we head towards the finale of our founding owners drive at the end of October.
Yesterday marked our first official presence at the Saturday morning Durham Farmer's Market! Thanks to board member Stephen Hren for handling the booth at the market. Stephen handed out nearly 300 brochures about Durham Central Market, to a sizable crowd of market shoppers. I think we can expect ownership purchase shares to increase this week as a result of Stephen's efforts yesterday.
Would you like to volunteer as an ambassador for DCM at the farmer's market booth? Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know your availability!
We sold 30 memberships at the Festival for the Eno and talked to many others who are interested in joining. Thanks to our new members! Look for us at several upcoming events!
